DELVAUX’s newest boutique is situated in the Sherry-Netherland building, at the former site of A La Vieille Russie. Originally built in 1927 opposite the legendary Plaza Hotel, the storied building is one of the jewels of Fifth Avenue, New York’s most exclusive luxury destination.
Facing Central Park and located amidst the city’s emblematic landmarks, the location perfectly befits DELVAUX’s first flagship boutique in the United States. The New York store not only conveys the essence of the Belgian Maison but is also an hommage to the multifaceted spirit of New York itself. The boutique has been conceived to reflect its iconic Fifth Avenue location and the vibrant energy of Manhattan with all its communities. Throughout the boutique, la Maison’s signature creations are in intimate dialogue with remarkable Decorative Arts elements, welcoming New Yorkers to discover DELVAUX’s legacy of timeless tradition and daring innovation. Sense of history and contemporary aesthetics merge together to create an inimitable character imbued with Belgitude.
Entering the New York boutique, Gris des Ardennes marble floors confer with a wall decorated with leather cutting tools from the Brussels atelier and courtly Emiel Veranneman tables.
Leading up to the mezzanine floor, the original sweeping staircase has been renovated and customised with the colours of the Belgian flag on its risers, and the impeccably restored balustrade looks straight onto an outstanding antique central chandelier once illuminating a Flemish church.
On the upper level, a remarkable all-velvet lounge looks out over Central Park through large windows. The space is completed with a beautifully restored Versailles parquet and a French 18th century Régence table, once owned by financier George Jay Gould I, that has been brought back to Manhattan by DELVAUX after profuse adventures. Other key pieces of furniture include an elegant chest of drawers by Veranneman.
A visit of the new Manhattan boutique is a unique, unexpected and stimulating journey into DELVAUX’s special, significant and whimsical universe.
